Police accuse Jiro Balsanar and son of interference with justice

Police in Brazil has accused former President Jiri Balsanar, 70 years old and his 41-year-old son Eduard of justice.

They claim that they tried to intervene in the lawsuit against the senior Bolsonar, in which he is charged with a coup attempt after defeat in the 2022 presidential election.

Police say he found a document on Jir Bolsonar’s mobile phone, who believes he plans to avoid a criminal case in search of asylum in Argentina.

They also accuse Eduard Bolsonar of lobbying Trump administration on behalf of his father – which, according to them, led to the introduction of US tariffs for Brazilian goods.

A police report on 170 pages comes less than two weeks before the final coup phase and further pressure on the former leader.

Jair Bolsonaro denies the cancellation of the election loss in 2022 on its left competitor Luis Inazio Lula to Silva.

But he questioned the justice of the case against him, claiming that he was the goal of “political witch hunt.”

Last month, he told Reuters news agency that he “had no doubt” in five judges of the Supreme Court, who was given the task to sentence it, has already decided to convince him.

But at the time, he denied if he planned to try to avoid the trial.

“I never thought about leaving the country,” he said Reuters, adding that he believed that the allegations of the coup were designed to “exclude” him from the president’s run in 2026.

But in her report submitted on Wednesday, police said she found a letter on Jir Bolsonar’s mobile phone with a political asylum in Argentina.

The 33-page letter was addressed directly to the President of Argentine Javier Miles, the statement said. Mille condemned the “persecution” of Bolsonar and is regarded as a political ally of the former leader.

The letter is dated, but the police say that in February 2024 it was the last changed by phone, shortly after Bolsonar had to hand over the police passport.

It is unclear whether the project was to go, and the Argentine source of the government told Reuters that the office of Argentina’s president had not received a letter from Bolsonar.

But the police claim that the project shows Bolsonar’s intention to evade justice.

Alyaksandr de Moraz, a judge who oversee the trial in Bolsonar, gave 48 hours of the ex-president lawyers to provide an explanation for the alleged asylum request.

Currently, Jir Balssanar is under house arrest and is already forbidden to place on social media and contact the son of Edward for violation of the court restrictions that have been put on it.

The report also accused Eduard Bolsonar of trying to influence his father’s lawsuit by lobbying Trump’s administration to put pressure on the Brazilian government and the Supreme Court.

In July, Trump announced that he would raise tariffs for Brazilian imports to 50%, citing Brazil’s treatment Jiro Bolsonar as a hike trigger.

In addition, the US State Department banned eight judges of the Supreme Court of Brazil – including Alexander De Moras to travel to the United States.

Eduard Bolsonar, who was in the US for almost six months, went to social media on Wednesday to refuse his charges.

He said his actions in the US had never been aimed at influenceing any business in Brazil and that his goal was to “restore freedom in the country.”
