Poland to suspend migrants’ right to asylum

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said his government would temporarily suspend the right of migrants coming to Poland across the border with a Belarusian to apply for asylum.

Tusk made a proclamation after a controversial bill, which would allow the Polish authorities to suspend this right up to 60 days at the same time, was signed to the law by President Andrei Duda.

Tusk said his government would accept the “without delay” law, while Duda said that changes were needed to strengthen the security of the country.

But the law is criticized, including Human Rights Watch, which states that the EU should take legal action against Poland if it was implemented.

The group called on the country’s parliament last month to reject the bill, saying that “flies to international commitments in Poland” and could “effectively seal the border from Poland-Belarus, where the Polish authorities are already involved in illegal and harsh appeals.”

The government earlier said the suspension would only be temporarily applied to people who threaten state security, such as major aggressive migrants groups trying to storm the border.

Exceptions will be made for minors who have no escort, pregnant, elderly or bad

Tusk rejected criticism from human rights groups.

“Nobody speaks of human rights violations, the right to asylum, it is not to provide applications to people who illegally cross the border in groups organized by Lukashenko,” he said in October.

Since 2021, there has been a huge increase in the number of people who illegally cross their countries from Belarus and Russia in Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Finland.

The Polish authorities sent thousands of troops and border guards to the police to the border with Belarus They were stranded.

Human rights groups have evaluated more than one hundred people who have died at the borders between Belarus and Poland, Lithuania and Latvia since 2021.

Eastern EU Eastern flank and European Commission have accused the Belarusian and Russian authorities of migration to create a new EU route to destabilize the bloc.
