Pete Alonso becomes the new house leader of all time

New York Mets’ first base, Pete Alonso, reached its 253rd race career yesterday to overcome Darryl Strawberry as the leader of the franchise in all home time. Alonso registered three times and two throws at home yesterday at 13-5 of Mets of the Atlanta Braves.

“As a child, you don’t think he is in the field of the possibility of being a franchise leader at home,” Alonso told journalists after the game. “You just want to get to the big leagues and give it the best. And the dream is really an opaque and unknown thing. You just want to come and compete, play a world series, play winning baseball … I mean, it is a wild dream, to be honest, and it is really special.”

At the end of the third post, with the mets ahead of 3-1, Alonso struck a rapid four-foot ball of 394 feet to capture the record, breaking the old 252-run dilawberry mark at home with the franchise. After the landing of the house, the Mets showed a graph of the number 253 next to the images of Pete Alonso next to the polar bears, the animal for which it is nicknamed. After crossing the foundations, Alonso embraced teammates Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil before recognizing the crowd.

“Really special. Really special moment for P and the whole organization. He has been one of the most elite elite hit since he arrived, and to get it now he is really, really special,” said Nimmo after victory. “He is one of the most elite power beaters in our game right now and since 2019. I’m so proud of him. And to get to this brand, honestly, such a young stage. I can’t wait to see what the brand marks.”

Ex -Mets Great and Sny Keith Hernandez gave a vision of the monumental occasion after the game.

“I tell you, I loved his comment that as a child growing, you can not imagine -the face of an organization, becoming this type of prolific player, a whipper, a benchman to start.” he said. “It’s fair, as if you have to pinch. So I’m so happy for him. Pete cares. Every day he arrives at the ball park. He plays every day. He has always kept healthy and always puts him 100%. And my hats.”

The New York Mets also made a video for Alonso with Darryl Strawberry, congratulating him on turning into the new king of the franchise.

“I just want to say congratulations on breaking the home record.” Said strawberry. “Listen, you have worked hard. You have planted you at the pressure of New York City and you played well. It’s well deserved. You’re a married player. And again, congratulations and it continues to be very successful.”

The hope now for Alonso is that its record action will justify an extension of the contract. It is currently scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent by 2027.

“I mean, I have a goal to play baseball until I have my 40 -year -old season, so it’s for me. I’m going to work hard and I’ll do it,” he said. “And you know why it is the business, Steve (Cohen) and David (Stearns), they must pass.”

Alonso asked what kind of long-term contract he would be interested in, “there is only one way to discover it.”

The Mets are back in action tonight, as they continue their three -game house against the Atlanta Braves. The first pitch is scheduled for 19:10 EDT.
