Pep’s side will defy next year says Dunne

Manchester City will again challenge the Premier League title again next season, says former defender Richard Dunne.

Pep Guardiola’s side had a poor campaign this time, finishing 13 points behind the Liverpool champions and not winning a trophy for the first time since 2016-17.

But Dunne, who made more than 350 appearances in the city before moving to Aston Villa in 2009, believes they will return to the summit next time.

Talking to William Hill He said: “Manchester City will again contact the Premier League next season.

“In fact, I think Man City did very well at the end of the season, taking into account its fall in shape. Finishing comfortably in third place was a good change for the club, Pep Guardiola and the players to put in the right position to prepare for next season.

“The last day of the Premier League season was a bit strange for the city, because there was a place in the Champions League available that added a little danger.

“It was not the same as winning or falling from the league. It was a different pressure.”

The city still has the Club World Cup to play.

They open their campaign in the United States on June 18 against the Moroccan side Wydad AC.
