People we meet on vacation likely to become a new favorite for you ROM-COM-OBSERVATION When he hits Netflix.
The film, based on the Emily Henry a novel of the same name, starring Emily Bader Like Poppy Wright and Tom Blyth Like Alex Nilsen in a magical story of friends for lovers. After announcing the cast, Henry teased what fans can expect from the talented film adaptation and stars that tapped to portray the characters of the beloved book.
“I’ve been a kind of anxious wreck about who would play these characters,” Henry told Netflix in July 2025.
He added from Bader and Blyth: “I watched their chemistry read four times in 12 hours, and I loved it more every time. The first time I laughed out loud, and I got so emotional by the end.”

The people we meet on holiday tell the story of Poppy and Alex, friends who met at college and festivals together every summer. Unfortunately, their friendship stopped after a drunken hook during Croatian holidays, leaving Poppy eager to get their relationship back on track.
In the book, readers get several timeline shifts to trips that the pair had been together in the past and the relationships they were committed to with other partners. In this day and age, Poppy tries to reconnect with Alex during the final trench holidays for Palm Springs, where everything seems to be getting terribly wrong, from the poor hotel to the air conditioning lack in a fiery desert sun. With tension in the air, Poppy and Alex finally address what happened in Croatia and decide whether their harbor chemistry can change to something bigger.
In addition to Bader and Blyth Cast as Poppy and Alex leaders, respectively, Sarah Catherine Hook. Jamila Jamil. Laviscount. Lukas gage. Miles Heater. Alice Lee. Tommy makes. Alan Ruck. Molly Shannon and Michael A. New -Rest also added them to the cast. Brett Haley directs the project.
Haley gawed over a Bader portrait of Poppy’s lively travel writer.
“She wears her emotions so openly, and Emily Bader conveys that all so fully,” Haley told Netflix. “Her comedy timing is a sharp razor, but it also has the range to land dramatic and romantic moments with real depth.”
She added, “She will make you laugh, and she will make you cry.”
Haley had nothing but great things to say about working with Blyth.
“Tom Blyth, who is in real life effortlessly cool, had pressed Alex’s logic and restraint in a way that made the character feel incredibly real and transferable,” he said. “He brought so much life, warmth and quiet humor to the role.”
Although an official trailer has not yet been released, Netflix revealed the first pictures of Bader and Blyth in character. The streaming platform also shared a Fast teaser Includes dubbing from Poppy and Alex while a clip of waves is an accident playing in the background.
“Where does Alex Nielsen stand on travel? Love or Hate?” Poppy asks.
Alex replies, “I mean, I’ve never traveled before, but this morning I saw this beautiful sunrise or this place that I have never been before and I wouldn’t have gone in line with the plan. So, love. I think love.”
The film is expected on Netflix on January 9, 2026.
