The latest episode of The last of us Had two great surprise returns as viewers continue to feel the loss of Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal).
Spoilers from The Last of Us Season 2, Chapter 5 below.
The episode opened on Sunday, May 11, with Hanrahan (Alanna Ubach) And other members of the Washington Relief Front (WLF) make a great discovery about the cordyceps virus: it evolves and has become the air.
Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina (Isabela Merced), meanwhile, still looking for abby (Kaitlyn Dever). However, they have made some progress. Come night, the duo goes out to find the WLF where they are located in a Seattle Hospital.
Along the way, they come across a dormant part of the city. Ellie and Dina find out quickly that he is fully infected – after revealing their love for each other.

During the battle with the infected, Ellie seems to be dipped again (it’s unclear, but a multiple was on head at one time) and Dina is in danger. Ultimately, muffled gun shots begin to get closer with the infected being selected one by one. The mysterious shooter is nobody less than Jesse (Young tooth), which arrived at Seattle from Jackson and was fast to save the girls. (Reminder: Dina is pregnant with Jesse’s baby, but she and Ellie are in love.)
The shots get the attention of WLF members, who persecute the trio. However, when Ellie, Dina and Jesse enter City Park, WLF members refuse to enter. But more on that in a moment.
When hiding in the leaves, Jesse tells Ellie and Dina that he and Tommy (Gabriel Luna) followed to Seattle. At that point, they realized that the seraphites had control of the park, which is why the WLF did not enter. (The trio watches the seraphites dismiss a wlf member.)
Eventually, the Seraphites discover Ellie, Dina and Jesse. Dina is shot in his leg with an arrow and Jesse carries her out of the park. Ellie, in trying to distract the seraphites, arrives at Seattle Hospital where he hopes to find Abby. Instead, she finds Nora (Tati Gabrielle), who was present for Joel’s death.
Ellie persecuted Nora into an elevator shaft that drops them down to the hospital’s basement level. This is where the cordyceps in the air are located. While Nora is struggling to breathe now that she is infected, Ellie is fine.
“You are. The immune girl, you are real,” realized Nora. “Do you not know what he did?”
Ellie continues to ask for Abby’s location while Nora re -lives Joel Hospital’s massacre from the show’s season 1 finale.
“He killed everyone in that hospital. Including the only f *** ing alive person who can heal you,” said Nora. “That was Abby and Joel’s father … Joel shot him in his head. That’s what he did.”
Ellie, who is unveiled by what he hears, continues to ask for Abby. When she’s not getting answers, Ellie begins to beat Nora with a pipe – similar to How Abby Joel beat with a golf club. Suddenly, the screen goes black.
Back -lach shows Ellie waking up a challenge and Joel’s Jackson House. Joel (looks better than ever, and very alive) opens the door to their bedroom.
“Hey, kiddo,” he said.
