Patrick and Brittany Mahomes Explain Their Children’s Names: Sterling, Bronze

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Mahomes of Brittanyhave kept up with a theme when it comes to baby names.

After get engaged in September 2020, the couple announced they were expecting their first child. Patrick and Brittany welcomed their daughter Sterling Skye in February 2021. The pair tied the knot in March 2022 and added son Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III to their family in November.

“My second child, Patrick Mahomes III. I have to say his real name or his dad will go mad,” Brittany explained on the The Kelly Clarkson Show in January 2024. “His name is Patrick (and) we call him Bronze.” (The NFL player’s full name is Patrick Lavon Mahomes II and he was named after his father, Pat Mahomes Sr.)

Brittany and Patrick announced in July 2024 that they were expecting their third child. In January 2025, the duo shared via Instagram that they welcome girl Golden Ray.

Sterling Is Meant For Their Dog To Begin With

Brittany shared the origins of Sterling’s name during an Instagram Story Q&A in April 2023. “I got Steel in college and named him,” she explained of the couple’s older dog. “Then we got our second dog and we were going to name him Sterling because he went with Steel perfectly.”

Llydaw continued, “Then I said no, I want that to be my daughter’s name, so we came up with Arian to go with Steel.”

Brittany explained that they were “already set on Sterling” when they were expecting their daughter. “Then having a boy and he was Patrick Mahomes III, Efydd was supposed to be and it went perfectly,” he wrote.

Bron Trey Was Bronze

Patrick shared that he initially had another name in mind for his son. “We were going with Trey to start because of the third obviously and everything like that,” he explained while speaking on The Drive on 610 Sports Radio (Kansas City) Audacy in December 2022, per People.

How Jackson Mahomes Got His Bronze Nickname

Keeping in the family tradition, the Bronze moniker happened by chance. “My brother Jackson (Mahomes)whenever we were trying to find something that was a bit unique and different, he said, ‘What about Bronze? It fits Sterling perfectly,’” Patrick said during a press conference in November 2022. “So, we went with that.”

He continued, “It’s working out well. He can have his own thing now where he’s not Patrick, he’s Bronze, even though he’s Patrick. And Sterling and Bronze can have that connection moving forward.”
