The next series between India and England will have a newly renamed trophy to honor two legendary cricketers, Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson, at Test Cricet. However, the legacy of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi will continue to associate in the series despite the change in the name of the trophy.
The Pataudi trophy was introduced in 2007 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Opening Testing Party between India and England, which took place in Lord’s in 1932. Team India, led by the legendary Cricket Rahul Dravid, won a comfortable 1-0 victory in a series of three-game tests on English floor.
According to a BBC report, the newly called Turnulkar-Anderson Trophy will be presented before the test series, which begins on June 20 in Leeds. It will take place in Lord’s during the final of the World Test Championship of June 11, with both Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson who are present.

Tendulkar and Anderson faced 14 tests between 2006 and 2012. While Tendulkar scored 208 runs during these encounters, Anderson fired him nine times, the largest of any tendulkar test bowl.
India and England have played the Pataudi trophy during the test series in England. The Men in Blue won the inaugural edition, while England claimed it in 2011, 2014 and 2018.
Boria Majumdar said that the trophy is expected to be the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, not Tendulkar-Anderson. However, Majumdar added that the legacy of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi is not being eliminated from the Indian-England Testing series.
“There has been a debate on the name change of the Pataudi trophy in the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy. It is not the tendulkar-Anderson trophy, but it will be the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy, as I know. But it is not the news. Pataudi’s name is not dissociated from the series,” said Boria.

Boria Majumdar said that the BCCI and the ECB do not intend to despise the legacy of the Pataudi family with the name of the trophy. He added that the trophy will have a new name, but Pataudi’s name will still be associated with the Indian-England Testing series.
“The idea of the ECB and the BCCI is not to show any contempt for the Pataudi family or their legacy. From what I understand, the legacy and name Pataudi will continue to be associated with the series, while only the trophy is renamed,” Boria added.
“This is a combination of tradition and modernity. While the legacy of the Pataudis, such as Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, who played in two countries, and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, a former captain of India who also played in Sussex, continues, the change aims to build a cultural bridge,” he continued.
Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi played in both England and India during the 1930’s and 1940’s. His son, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, later became a legendary figure in the Indian Cricket, at the head of the national team in 40 tests in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
England is currently holding the trophy, after drawing the most recent 2-2 series. The series began in 2021 and was completed by 2022 after delaying due to Covid-19.
