Decades later Pakistan is all set to host the ICC event, and that is the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will begin on February 19 in Karachi with India‘s matches are held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Although the stadiums are not yet ready, strong security arrangements are being made in Pakistan.
In a major security operation, Pakistan’s Punjab Police has deployed more than 12,664 officers to ensure the safety of players and fans in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.
With 7,618 officers assigned to Lahore, 4,535 policemen will handle security in Rawalpindi. Additionally, 411 Special Branch officers will provide additional support to enhance security operations for the upcoming eight-nation tournament.
It is also said that aerial monitoring will be conducted with the support of Pakistan Army and Rangers to strengthen surveillance during the tournament. Even the routes to the sites will be closely monitored with Safe City cameras, providing real-time surveillance to prevent any incidents.
A Geo News report says, “Aerial monitoring will be done with the support of the Pakistan Army and Rangers to strengthen surveillance. Routes to the sites will be monitored using Safe City cameras, providing real-time surveillance to prevent any incident”.
On the other hand, Sindh Police is taking proactive measures to ensure security as Karachi will host the opening ceremony and opening of the tournament, apart from the upcoming ODI Tri-Series.
According to a police spokesperson, the commissioner has already conducted meetings to personally oversee the security arrangements at the National Stadium in Karachi.
A police spokesperson was quoted by PTI as saying, “Plans are being made and at least 5,000 or more security personnel, including Sindh Police units, would be deployed for the matches, on routes and at the team’s hotels” .
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) seems to have detected the security threat as at least 17,000 security personnel will be deployed for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi, even though India do not cross the border for the prestigious tournament.
Meanwhile, after a long wait of eight years, the ICC Champions Trophy is back, and after much drama, the tournament will begin in Pakistan and Dubai next month. Eight from above teams of last year’s ODI World Cup 2023 will fight for the coveted title.
The 8 teams are divided into two groups. Group A consists of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and New Zealand, while Afghanistan, England, Australiaand South Africa are in Group B. Talking about the Champions Trophy 2025 format, each team plays three matches in the group stage and the top two teams from each group advance to the semi-finals.
The top two teams from the semifinals will meet in the title showdown. However, Pakistan is yet to announce the squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, while the rest of the seven participants have already named their supply squads.
