Openai on Thursday said it launches AI Data Center, which deals with a brand in Norway, which marks its first raid to Europe.

The British firm NSCale will develop and build a website as part of a 50-50 joint venture with Norwegian energy infrastructure.

Openai in the project will be the so-called “outside participant”, that is, it will effectively buy the power at the data center.

“The part of the goal of this project is to partnership with Openai and use European sovereign calculation to release additional services and functions on the European continent,” said NSCALE on Thursday.

The site is aimed at providing 100,000 NVIDIA graphical processing divisions by the end of 2026, “with the intention to expand significantly in the coming years,” Openai said in a press release. The companies said the data center will work completely at renewable capacity and has 230 megawatts, making it one of the largest in Europe.

Nvidia grapher processors have become the actual choice of chips for data centers from the ability to handle heavy loads on II.

For the Norway NSCale and Aker project, they made about $ 1 billion for the initial phase of the 20 MW project. The site will be located in a quandal near Narvik in Northern Norway. The companies said the region is characterized by “rich hydropower, low local demand for electricity and limited transmission capacity.”

Payne refused to comment on how NSCale would fund this project or financial benefits from the company project. The CEO stated that there are no plans for additional Stargate data centers, but NSCale has its “reliable European extension plan”.

Star level was originally launched this year in the US As an infrastructure project between Openai, OracleJapan Soft banksand MGX UAE. The project is aimed at investing $ 500 billion over the next four years, creating AI infrastructure.

Openai looked to take this initiative worldwide. In June, the company and its partners announced the plans to build Campus Stargate in UAE.

Europe, meanwhile, pushes the concept of “sovereign II”, which require the location and processing of AI data and refining on European soil.

Payne said that in Europe there are two “problems” – the first is that it does not have enough computing and the second – “very fragmented”.

“The continent’s needed, these are large infrastructure projects of AI that deploy calculations (Power). The ecosystem can consume from the AI Product Products Project to gain productivity and economic benefit,” Payin said.

Companies such as Nvidia and Openai, also advertise their The ability to deliver sovereign AI if they seek to expand their business.

On a trip to Europe this year, Nvidia CEO Jensen Juan called on the continent to build more infrastructure II. French company AI Mistral Announced plans for use of Nvidia graphic processors at the new data processing center scheduled for France.
