Officials delayed the Candy Store after the apparent terrorist attack on Bourbon Street

The 2025 Sugar Bowl in New Orleans was postponed hours before kickoff Wednesday after at least 10 people were killed and dozens injured in what federal officials are investigating as a terrorist attack.

Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley spoke at a press conference with local and federal officials Wednesday afternoon to confirm that the College Football Playoff quarterfinal game between Georgia and Notre Dame will be postponed 24 hours.

The postponement followed reports that the Superdome, home of the New Orleans Saints, was initially closed for security checks and that people with offices in the stadium were told not to enter the grounds until further notice.

That directive included officials from the Sugar Bowl and Sun Belt Conference, a source told The Associated Press.

According to the FBI statement, around 3:15 a.m. local time, a man driving a Ford pickup plowed into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street. The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Deen Jabbar, exchanged gunfire with local law enforcement before being pronounced dead at the scene.

At least 10 people died and another 35 were injured as a result of the terrorist attack.

The FBI is also working to determine the subject’s “potential connections and affiliations with terrorist organizations” after an ISIS flag was found in the truck. A weapon and a potential IED were located inside the suspect’s vehicle, and other potential IEDs were also located in the French Quarter.

The tragedy in New Orleans occurred as thousands of fans flocked to the historic city on the eve of the Sugar Bowl night.

The Superdome is just a mile from the site of Wednesday morning’s deadly attack.

Georgia and Notre Dame arrived in New Orleans on Sunday and reportedly stayed at hotels a few blocks from the crime scene. According to reports, a “shelter” for the teams has been set up at both schools.
