Obi-Wan Kenobi had sworn the old Republic with Jedi hypocrisy

Pop quiz, hot shot: In Star Wars, who do you think did most to make the old Republic? You may be tempted to say palpatine for treating two huge civil wars and grabbing power, or you could say that Darth Vader, the former Jedi who helped hunt down and murder his colleagues across the galaxy. In fact, it was Obi-Wan Kenobi who swore the old Republic because the rigidity of his Jedi code kept him from killing Anakin Skywalker when he had the opportunity.

How Obi-Wan Kenobi killed the Old Republic

He decided to hold Jedi code, and many fans support this decision, arguing that Master Jedi would have become exactly what he hated most. This is, of course, the same argument as Batman fans make why this demented billionaire does not kill the Joker and called it a day.

But this is the thing: If Batman killed the Joker and felt that bad, he could turn himself in or, in the case of the worst, commit suicide. Similar options are available to our favorite Jedi master, who may have already become one with the power or otherwise removed himself from the temptation to channel his growing darkness. Given that Obi-Wan Kenobi becomes hermit on a tattoo WhateverHe could have killed Anakin Skywalker, became a recluse, and kicked back, knowing he saved the galaxy.

These space wizards were clearly sleeping at the wheel, and this led directly to the Sith taking control of the entire galaxy. If Obi-Wan Kenobi had been prepared to kill Anakin simply when he had the opportunity, the emperor could have been defeated more easily, Vader hundreds of victims would have been spared, and the old Republic may be intact.

Unfortunately, while Kenobi said “Hello there” to General Grievous, he said goodbye to something else in CHAPTER III: common sense.
