With the conclusion of the T20I series, where the new zealand triumphed 2-1, attention now shifts to the ODI series of Sri Lanka tour of New Zealand 2024-25.
In the ODI format, the Blackcaps are currently ranked fifth in the ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings, while Sri Lanka are way behind at sixth. This promises to be an exciting and closely contested battle between two competitive sides.
The Basin Reserve pitch in Wellington promises a battle between bat and ball. With a greenish hue and healthy grass cover, the surface is expected to provide early movement and pace, offering significant assistance to the fast bowlers in the early stages. While batting may be a challenge early on, the pitch is likely to stabilize, making it easier to score runs as the match progresses.
Teams who win the toss are likely to choose to bowl first to take advantage of the early conditions. However, batting first can also produce substantial totals if the initial hurdles are successfully navigated. The spinners are unlikely to get much help from the surface and will have to rely on deft variations to make an impact.
