A National Transport Security Council (NTSB) During the press conference on Thursday, the alarm was heard, warning 30 owners of 68 bridges in 19 states to evaluate the vulnerability to determine the risk of breaking the bridge from the impression of the ship.
NTSB also referred to the lack of assessment of the state administration of Maryland, which may have prevented the deadly collapse of the Francis Scott bridge in Baltimore.
984-Futa Singapore cargo vessel gave away with Baltimor Harbor On March 26, 2024, when it felt the loss of electrical power and motor force and struck the southern marina, which supports the central trusses of the Francis Scott bridge on the Potapsk River.

NTSB Chairman Jennifer Hamendy said the key bridge was almost 30 times higher than the “acceptable risk threshold” for critical or necessary bridges, reports the leadership of the US State Highway and Transport officials.

“Honestly, we sounded over this alarm since the tragedy happened,” Haudi said. “We need actions. Public safety depends on it.”

NTSB has determined 68 bridges developed before the Aashto guide has been established before the vulnerability.
NTSB recommends that 30 bridge owners evaluate whether their bridges are above the acceptable Aashh risk level, and if so, develop and implement a comprehensive risk reduction plan.
Aashto has developed and published a calculation estimate of vulnerability for new bridges on the national highway system in 1991 in response to the NTSB investigation Sunshine Skyway Bridge Thrapse in Florida.

At the time, Aashto also recommended that all the owners of the bridge have an assessment of vulnerability on existing bridges to “evaluate the risk of catastrophic collapse in the case of a ship”.
In the decades, in 2009, Aashto again confirmed this recommendation again.
Since 1994, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has demanded from new bridges to minimize the risk of the bridge’s catastrophic collapse from the vessel, “given the size, speed and other characteristics of vessels moving along the bridge,” NTSB reports.

Home added that NTSB also recommends FHWA, US Coast Guard And the US Army Engineering Corpus created an “interdisciplinary team” to provide recommendations and assistance to the bridge owners in the risk assessment and reduction.
According to NTSB, the risk reduction may indicate improving infrastructure or operational changes.
NTSB also releases more than 1000 pages of investigative material on a public doctrine on Thursday, including a bridge report and several interviews.

Next week, NTSB intends to release the actual reports on dangerous materials, meteorological and survival factors, as well as a study conducted by the ship -dimensions and related safety.

It will follow that the data recorders provided by the data recorder will lead to NTSB, releasing their final report that will probably happen in the fall.
