South Korea’s military said North Korea has started removing some speakers used to broadcast propaganda on the border between the two countries.
North Korea’s move is a positive reaction to the top of the recently elected South Korean president Lee Jay Mun, which campaigned to improve inter -korean ties.
South Korea dismantled some of his own speakers earlier this week. He stopped broadcasting along the demilitarized zone shortly after Lee took the post in June – causing a similar response from his neighbor.
South Korean broadcasts often presented K-Pop songs and news, while the north played trouble noise, such as animal howling.
In a statement on Saturday, South Korean military said “found that North Korean troops were dismantling propaganda speakers in some parts of the front line from this morning.”
Added: “It remains to confirm whether the devices were removed in all regions, and the military will continue to monitor the related activity.”
The broadcasts were suspended in previous cases. But after a six -year pause, they resumed in June 2024 in response to Pyongyang’s company to send balls filled with garbage to the south.
Residents living along the border complained that their lives were swirling the noise that walked on both sides, sometimes in the middle of the night.
Seoul claimed that broadcasts could be heard 10 km (six miles) over the day and up to 24 km (15 miles).
But speaking after South Korea suspended its broadcasts in June, organizations that advocate the human rights of the Northern Koreans criticized this step.
The ties between North and South Korea have deteriorated under President Jonah Suka Yeol, who was more hazardous towards Pyongyang.
Yona was impeachment and removed from office In a short time the placement of South Korea as part of martial law in December, citing the alleged threats of anti -state forces and sympathizers of North Korea.
The reunification from the south has always been key, when it is increasingly unrealistic, part of the north ideology since the state is created – until its current leader Kim Jong Un abandon this idea in 2024.
Both countries have been technically in the war since the Korean War ended in 1953 without a peace treaty.
