Following his retirement, Ashwin has maintained discussions with several cricket boards. CEO of Cricket Australia (CA), Todd Greenberg, has confirmed conversations about Ashwin that can join next season BBL, which begins on December 15.

Although most teams have finished their teams and budgets, Cricket Australia is exploring ways to accommodate veteran spinner. Greenberg said the presence of Ashwin would benefit the Big Bash.

“To get someone with Ashwin’s credentials to come here by the BBL will be excellent at so many levels. He is a Cricter Champion that will contribute a lot to the large amount and in our Cricket Summer,” Greenberg told Cricbuzz.

Ravichandran Ashwin hoped to play limited matches

Ravichandran Ashwin may not participate throughout the tournament and are expected to appear in a limited number of matches. The team that could represent has not yet been confirmed.

No Indian player has competed in the BBL before. Former Captain of India U-19, Unmukt Chand, played in the League, but did so after moving to the United States and retiring from Indian Cricket.

In the past, legends such as Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh approached or expressed interest in the BBL, but did not materialize. Ashwin, who played Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025, has the opportunity to become the first Indian to submit to the Australian competition T20.

Ravichandran Ashwin could join a Melbourne-based BBL franchise

The report added that Ravichandran Ashwin could join a Melbourne franchise like The Melbourne Stars or Melbourne renegged. Ca is exploring flexible arrangements to accommodate it, similar to previous contracts that were given to David Warner, who was paid by game.

Ashwin’s participation could open doors for other Indian players to consider T20 leagues abroad after IPL. The Spinner could win about 45 lakes per game, with more than 3 crores if he plays half the season, along with additional opportunities for brand approvals.

In addition to playing, Ashwin is looking forward to exploring coaching papers at BBL and using experience to further develop his skills. It can also appear in the next Ilt20 next year.
