Shreyas Iyer joined Kolkata Knight Riders by 2022 after being purchased for € 12.5. He was one of the most experienced captains of the IPL and played a key role in KKR leadership in the first title in a decade. KKR was not preserved by Iyer for the next cycle and entered the auction pool.
Many expected Iyer to continue their trip with KKR after guiding them to their third IPL championship. However, the franchise decided to retain other key players such as Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Rinku Singh, Harshit Rana and Ramandeep Singh.
KKR did not show an interest in re-signing Iyer, as the restrictions on the pay lid forced them to leave once the tender crossed 10 crore. Punjab Kings got it for 26.75 ₹ Crore after a fierce tender war at the 2025 IPL auction.

The Premier League India 2025 ended on Tuesday, June 3, with the game between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the kings of Punjab. The team led by Rajat Patidar won their first title with a six victory at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad.
After being asked to beat first, RCB recorded a decent total of 190 by 9. Kohli was the highest scorer in RCB with 43 runs of 35 balls. Arshdeep Singh and Kyle Jamieson collected three doctors each for PBKs.
