After two additional heart surgeries, Bennett now thrives in life as he enjoys piano, football and other peers.
Looking to the future, Deloach hopes she can use her family story to push for more heart checks in hospitals when babies are born.
“I hope by the time I take my last breath in this world that it will be part of the showing of all newly -born,” he said. “When they are born, they get their ears checked, their eyes are checked, everything else and their hearts. It sounds like no-brainer to me.”
