Nigeria’s examination body recognizes “glitter” against the background of low passage speed

The body, which conducts the exams of the University of Nigeria, recognized the “technical failure”, which violated some of the test results this year after almost 80% of students received low marks.

Students complained that they were unable to log on the computers, the issues that are not indicated, but the reduction of electricity, which makes it impossible to take the exams.

The low passage speed has caused extensive indignation, especially after one candidate took her life.

Her family stated that the 19 -year -old Vera Opesus Timilein, which sought to study the microbiology at the university, died after the poison was swallowed.

Her father and older sister reported to the BBC that she passed the exam for the second time and received 146 marks of 400, below 193 last year.

“The pain made her take her own life,” said her father Olvofemi Opesus, BBC Pidgin.

Usually 200 and above 400 are enough to get a place at the university at the examinations held by joint admission and councils (JAMB).

Only 400,000 out of 1.9 million students have reached this brand, one of the worst performances in recent years.

One student standing for Ecke, said the BBC Igbo that 10 of 165 questions did not appear on the screen – all she could see is some options for choosing the answers.

“We were told to lower the empty questions and continue the exam, but after that it was very difficult to concentrate,” she said.

She also experienced technical problems, having received its results, that is, it is very unlikely that this year at the university – she passed the exams for the third time.

She passed a test in the Abuja capital, which is not one of the centers where students can return the exams, leaving her completely bewildered.

Another student said he had problems with the computer entered before a stranger’s profile mysteriously appeared on the screen, showing different questions and then the car closed for a short time.

“I failed to answer all the questions when they told us that our time was over because a lot of my time was spent out of these technical difficulties,” he said.

The exams of the exams apologized for “painful damage” and “the injury he had committed to the victims of Nigerians.”

At a press conference, Jamb registrar Slodee crashed with tears when he apologized.

He announced that almost 380,000 candidates in 157 affected centers will be able to return the exams since Saturday.

The most affected areas are Lagos and several states in the southeast.

Jamb has accused of refusing the computer system to load the examinations candidates in these areas during the first days of exams.

It states that “an unusual level of public problems and loud complaints” pushed us to an immediate audit. “Usually it would happen in June, the report said.

The national exam, known as the only examination of tertiary attesting (UTME) is a computer test that is a requirement for those who join universities and other higher institutions.

The 2025 test, which was conducted in March, was marred by interruptions from the electricity shutdown in some areas.

The head of the examination body earlier this week defended bad results, saying that they reflect the “true academic abilities” of students and were because of the pressure on the deception.

Many Nigerians in social media call for justice, some seek the resignation of Alide.

The opposition figure Peter Obi stated that while the guilt was commendable, the question raised a “very question about failures and graves” in critical institutions.

Human rights activist Rinin Odual said it was “incompetence. This is an educational sabotage. It should be arrested immediately.”
