Authorities have said rescuers in Northern Nigeria are looking for more than 40 missing passengers after a boat accident in Sokota.
The National Emergency Agency (NEMA) said the boat was transporting more than 50 people to the local market when it overturned in the Haronio River on Sunday.
Sokota’s official told BBC that four people were found alive. NEMA stated that “strengthening efforts with the local authorities to find (those) is still missing.”
Boat accidents regularly occur in Nigeria because of overpopulation, poorly supported boats and failure to comply with safety rules.
