Newcastle manager Eddie Howe thanked the fans and said he was “immensely grateful” to hospital staff after the club announced that the 47 -year -old was diagnosed with pneumonia.
Howe, who directed Newcastle to his first major trophy since 1955 winning the EFL cup Last month, he lost on Sunday the victory of Magpies’ Premier League on Manchester United and will be absent for his games against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa this week.
“A huge thanks to everyone connected to Newcastle United and the widest community for your warm messages and desires,” Howe said in his first message since he became ill.
“They have meant a lot to me and my family. I also want to pay tribute to our incredible NHS and the hospital staff who have treated me.”
Managers Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones guided Newcastle in the first double league on the Red Devils since the 1930/31 season in St James Park.
Howe had lost his three -day training and his pre -match press conference, when Tindall said that the former director of Bournemouth had been “really bad”, before going to the hospital for tests on Friday.
“I just saw a message from Eddie congratulating us on the performance and victory,” Tindall said after Newcastle was fourth at the table. “He could see the game and I’m sure he has lifted his mood.
“Eddie and I have been working together for 17 years and I don’t think he has ever lost more than a day or two at that time.
“I had a text message from Eddie before the game he trusted in myself to do what he thought was right. I sent him a couple of messages today to say he was very lost. He is one of the best managers there.”
Pneumonia is the name given to inflammation of the lungs and is usually caused by infections such as flu, a cold or other viruses.
Most patients are treated with antibiotics and take two to four weeks to improve, with rest and many liquids among the guidelines that are recommended to recover.
“I am immensely grateful for the specialized attention I am receiving and, after a recovery period, I hope to return as soon as possible,” added Howe.
Said Newcastle They would have “subsequent updates to communicate in its day”, adding: “The club continues to extend its best wishes to Eddie and his family as he continues his recovery,” they said.

Bruno Guimaraes, midfielder, who took fourth place in Newcastle, also paid tribute to Howe. “When we went to the pitch, we said we would play for him,” Brazil International reflected.
“It has been part of our success: it has been incredible to us. We missed it on the training ground and we hope that this victory will give him a little happiness in this hard week for him.”
Ombudsman Dan Burn said that working without Howe had been “very strange”. “For the gaffer to be in the formation, we knew something must have been,” added the newcomer of England.
