New Zealand has released its oldest messenger into the United Kingdom on the occasions of the US President Donald Trump’s understanding.
At the London event on Tuesday, the High Commissioner Phil Hoff compared efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine with the 1938 Munich Agreement, which allowed Adolf Hitler to annex part of Czechoslovakia.
Mr. Hoff recalled how Sir Winston Churchill criticized the agreement, then said about the US leader: “President Trump has restored Churchill’s bust to the oval office. But do you think he really understands the story?”
His comments were “deeply disappointing” and made their position “impossible”, said New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters.
His comments came after Trump stopped Kiev’s military aid after A Exchange on In an oval office last week.
He contrasted Trump with Churchill, who, while moving away from the British government, opposed the Munich Treaty when he saw it as a refund of Nazi Germany.
Mr. Hoff quoted how Churchill reproached, and then British Prime Minister Neville Cemberlen: “You had a choice between the war and the dishonest. You chose a shame, but you will have war.”
Peters said that Mr. Goff’s views did not represent New Zealand’s government’s opinions.
“If you are in this position, you represent the government and the day’s policy, you are unable to free, you are the face of New Zealand,” said local media saying Peters.
“Diplomatically, this is not the way you behave as the front of the country,” he said, adding that he would have taken the same way of action, regardless of what country was talked about.
Mr. Goff is a veteran politician who has been a high commissioner since January 2023. Prior to that, he worked for two terms by Mayor Okland, the largest city of New Zealand, and was the leader of the Labor Party from 2008 to 2011. He also held several ministerial portfolios, including justice, foreign affairs and defense.
Peters, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, told reporters that he had decided to release Philo without the first Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.
When it was noted that Luxan was the leader of New Zealand, Peters replied: “I know he is the Prime Minister, I made him prime minister.”
The 79-year-old guy, who previously collaborated with Mr. Goff, heads the First Political Party of New Zealand, who joined the National Party of Lukson and the ACT Party in 2023 to form the current right Central Coalition government.
For his part, Luxan stated that Peters’ decision was fired by Mr. Goff, without advising him, was “quite appropriate.”
Former Prime Minister Helen Clark was one of those who criticized Mr. Goff’s dismissal, saying he had been backed up by a “very subtle justification”.
“I recently been at the Munich Security Conference, where many draw parallels between Munich in 1938 and the United States now,” she wrote in a report on X.
According to the 1938 Munich Agreement, Hitler took control of Czechoslovakia Sudenland. The transaction could not prevent Nazi Germany to advance into Europe, and the Second World War began when in 1939 he broke into Poland.
