New Zealand Airport to remove Eagle sculptures with the subject

For over ten years, the couple of inspired hobbit sculptures of Eagle threw a careful look at visitors at Velington Airport in New Zealand.

But on Friday, gigantic birds will be lifted from the ceiling to make a place for a new mystery exhibition, the airport authorities said.

“Eagles” act as messengers in the “Lord of the Rings” JRR Tolkien and “Hobbit”, which were adapted to the movie “Sir Peter Jackson” New Zealand.

The spectacular landscapes of New Zealand presented in Mr. Jackson’s films are a consistent draw for tourists who are welcomed at the Eagle sculpture airport.

“It is not unusual to see traveling in the air from Velington Airport, but in this case it will be emotional for us,” Matt Clark said in a statement.

The giant eagles will be placed in the repository and there were no long -term plans.

Each eagle weighs 1.2 tons (1200 kg) with a scale of 15 m (49 feet). A trip to the back of one of the birds is a sculpture of a master, Gandalf.

Made with polystyrene and with an internal steel skeleton, each eagle has hundreds of feathers, the longest size of 2.4 m (8 feet).

While the icon “eagles” will soon leave, the franchise fans will not be lost: Smaug The Veextine, Dragon in the Hobbit, will continue to be displayed in the registration zone.

The eagles were presented in 2013, approximately during the hobbit trilogy. Giant sculptures were prepared wētā workshop, a New Zealand company that made costumes and props for the franchise “Lord of the Rings”.

“We work with the workshop wētā over exciting plans for a unique, local thematic replacement to take our place,” Mr. Clark said. “We will open what will happen this year, so keep looking at the sky.”

In 2014, one of the eagles collapsed during the earthquake. No one was injured in the accident.
