The International Criminal Court (ICC) said it “caused” new US sanctions in its judges and prosecutors.
On Wednesday, the US State Department announced new sanctions on two judges and two ICC prosecutors for participating in the US and Israeli persecution efforts.
Secretary of State Mark Rubio has accused the ICC of the “threat of national security” and “offense” against the United States and Israel.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the US movement. The ICC issued warrants for arrest against Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Joawa Galanta for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity over the war in Israel in Gaza.
France joined the ICC, announcing in the US, expressing “disappointment” as one of his judges, Nicholas Gila, was among the sanctioned.
The three other ICC officials, named by the US, were Judge Kimberly from Canada, as well as Deputy Prosecutors Nazhat Shamem Khan of Fiji and Mandi Nin from Senegal.
In a statement, Rubio condemned “politicization, abuse of power and illegitimate court overcoming” the court in which it announced the sanctions.
The ICC is a world court that has the right to prosecute the genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
The court called the latest sanctions a “high -profile attack” on its independence and impartiality.
“They also present against … International order based on the rules, and above all, millions of innocent victims around the world,” he added.
The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs has criticized the sanctions as “in contradiction with the principle of the independent judiciary,” AFP news agency reports.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu welcomed this decision, calling it “a firm measure against a brainstorming company” against Israel.
Gila was sanctioned for permission to arrest against Nezhanyah and Galanta, the US State Department reports.
It states that the Canadian Judge Prost was sanctioned for investigating US staff in Afghanistan, adding that Khan and Ning are responsible for “illegitimate acts against Israel”.
Punts mean that four officials cannot access and benefit from any property or interests they contain in the US.
This last round of sanctions occurred after the US imposed similar restrictions on Chief Prosecutor MCC Karim Khan KCTogether with four other judges earlier this year.
The UN Head of Human Rights has previously demanded that the US withdraw sanctions on four judges, saying that the decision caused the direct counteraction to “respect for the rule of law”.
In July, the United States also authorized the UN Special Council for Human Rights Francesco Albanese, who was a well -known critic of the Israeli military offensive in Gaza.
Rubio referred to support for Albonez by the ICC and its participation in the decisions of the US -pursuing court or Israeli citizens as justification for the move.
In response, Albanese sent support for the ICC on social media, saying that she had come from the founder of the Italian court, where lawyers and judges “defended justice with great cost and often their lives.”
“I intend to honor this tradition,” she added.
