The New Orleans Saints pledged to donate $1 million to help victims of the New Year’s Day terrorist attack in the French Quarter.
Fourteen people diedand dozens were injured after a man drove a white pick-up truck emblazoned with an ISIS flag at dangerous speeds down Bourbon Street.
The French Quarter is less than two miles from the Caesars Superdome, where the Saints play their home games.

“Our community has experienced an unimaginable tragedy, and our collective hearts are broken as we mourn the victims and survivors of the New Orleans New Year’s Eve terrorist attack,” Saints owner Gail Benson said in a statement. “As a league, our cities and teams compete at the highest levels of competition and share a fierce rivalry. Our staff and players work tirelessly to achieve our goals, and we share wins and losses.
“However, thanks to football, we are also united and stand hand in hand against all forms of hatred. We will overcome terror and fear with unwavering determination and focus based on love, compassion and kindness. Our focus has always been on providing quickly and efficiently, and we are grateful to partner with the Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF) and United Way to ensure these funds reach those who need them most.”

Because of the attack, sugar bowlwhich was held at the Saints Stadium, was postponed for a day. The stadium was filled with increased security, but that didn’t stop the fans from packing.
After the national anthem, there were shouts of “USA!” sounded from the crowd – before the anthem was played, there was a moment of silence for the fallen.

The Saints played their last home game of the season back on December 29. They will finish their season in Tampa Bay against the Buccaneers.
