I may only be old-fashioned, but back in the day when my friends and I wanted a party, we would sneak out of our parent’s garage and slam those breweries down in the woods before going to whatever evil we had in the evening for the night. Never in a thousand years it would happen to us we could get relaxed possession by turning that could ruin all our lives whichever troubled soul should break into the mortal kingdom as in 2022’s Talk to me. As a parent myself, I will definitely have a conversation with my children when they reach a party age because if they are going to enter the occult with their friends, I would prefer them to do it safely under my roof than in some stranger party … or something like that.
Simple, stylish, and supernatural
Talk to me is such a simple movie that you don’t need to put a ton of thinking in the viewing experience. In my attempt to give you the most basic decline because words cannot do justice to Talk to me’s World -class images and practical effects, we will frame it for you as a simple possession film with a healthy serving of psychological horror to keep things interesting.
We are introduced to Mia (Sophie Wilde), who is struggling to cope with her mother’s two-year birthday, which took place in mysterious circumstances. Mia, along with his best friend, Jade (Alexandra Jensen), and her little brother, Riley (Joe Bird), is invited to a party hosted by Hayley (Zoe Terakes) and Joss (Chris Aluosio), where the sole purpose of the concentration is to mess with replacement, it is withdrawn. Legend has it that if the children illuminate a candle, it opens the door to life after that, and when whatever a willing participant says that the phrases “talk to me,” and “I let you in” quickly successionallows them to experience possession from the other side directly.
But here’s the kicker, if whatever spirit from the other side occupies the body of his subject for more than 90 seconds, they can take over that they are all for good.
What could possibly go wrong?
After volunteering to communicate with the dead at Talk to meMia walks away from her initial experience wants to see more. So much, in fact, that she neglected to mention that the spirit she encountered appeared to be interested in Riley. At another couple a couple of days later, Mia urges Riley to try to use the hand despite Jade who doesn’t want him to take any part in the ritual because that’s what big defensive sisters do.
As you would expect, things are getting terribly wrong after Mia assumed her mother, Rhea (Alexandria Steffensen), occupies Riley’s body. Ever searched for solutions related to her mother’s death, Mia inadvertently welcomes the spirit to Riley’s body indefinitely because they passed far past the 90 second mark.
Shaken by Jade and the rest of her family after putting Riley in deadly danger, Mia begins to spin because whatever portal left open during the ritual bleeding to her real life. Blagged by demonic hallucinations and continually disturbed by her mother’s death, Mia decides to close the portal using the hand, but naturally accepts push back from all other traumatic parties involved.
Masterclass in naked bone suspension
During the face value, there’s not much Talked to me, But its delivery is why you want to look at this movie as soon as possible if you’re a fan of it supernatural horror. Admitting fully I am not Australia, and by extension unfamiliar with their regional expressions, I felt that every child had such an order over his youth slang that the dialogue never felt unbelievable. Referring naturally to their private parts as “guccis” and calling someone “fetus” instead of Sissy feeling authentic and earthy, which allowed me to wait to take part in the storytelling instead of thinking for myself, “Children do not speak that way.”
More importantly, the practical effects that Danny and Michael Philippou use in their unrivaled instructional first appearance. While there is no doubt in my mind that most modern productions use CGI for any sequences that include crossing over to life after that, the real gore is enough to make your skin crawl because you will not be saved by separation cuts – you are going to see faces and bodies wrecked in a real time in front of you.
Find strength in its inherent simplicity, Talk to me Tells a familiar story, but with a modern edge and a strong cast that makes everything seem credible, no matter how things off the rails get. If you have slept on Talk to me Once released initially, then I strongly encourage you to queue on Netflix the next time you want to be amazed to introduce it.
