Narayan Jagadeesan creates history; smashes 6 fours in an over in the Vijay Hazare Trophy

Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper Narayan Jagadeesan smashed six fours in one over to create history in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. He achieved this monumental feat during Tamil Nadu’s preliminary quarter-final match against Rajasthan at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara.

Jagadeesan looked in great form with the bat as he came to open the innings alongside Tushar Raheja. Khaleel Ahmed’s first over of bowling made 10 runs as Raheja started the carnage. But the real damage was about to happen in the second over.

The first ball bowled by Aman Shekhawat was a whimsical delivery that was five wides. The bowler then bowled a short length ball outside off first and Jagadeesan clipped the slip hard for a four. The second ball was guided nicely past point for another four.

On the next ball, Narayan Jagadeesan smashed another short delivery of a length for a four over the slip as third man’s fielding faltered a bit. The next ball was played in the air but Narayan Jagadeesan managed to slot the ball for another boundary.

Shekhawat changed his lines and bowled the next ball on the body, but that didn’t change the result as Jagadeesan hit him through midwicket for another four. The wicket-keeper-opener slotted the last ball over fine leg for another four to cap off a historic finish.

History of Indian domestic cricket

After a five-ball wide first, Narayan Jagadeesan smashed six consecutive fours to create a historic moment in Indian domestic cricket. It is the most no. of runs ever scored in an over in List A cricket without hitting a six.

It was a forgettable finish for Aman Shekhawat as he couldn’t find his line and rhythm. As expected, he did not re-enter the spell. The final was 29 runs. Tamil Nadu reached 39-0 in two overs.

Narayan Jagadeesan scored 65 off 52 balls with 10 fours. Six of those four came in one hit. Aman Shekhawat’s unusual action did not bother Jagadeesan as he was all over the place.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu won the toss earlier and chose to field first. Opener Abhijeet Tomar smashed a brilliant hundred against a powerful bowling attack. Skipper Mahipal Lomror batted well and hit a belligerent 49-ball-60 that included 3 fours and 4 sixes.

Wicketkeeper Kartik Sharma provided the late innings boost as Rajasthan scored 267 and were bowled out in 47.3 overs. Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy picked up a superb five-wicket haul for Tamil Nadu (5-52 in 9 overs).

In response, the match has reached an interesting position where anything can happen. The Rajasthan bowlers came back strongly after a horror start. They restricted a strong Tamil Nadu batting order and made them work hard.
