One of the engines of the Air India plane, which crashed last week, was new and the other was not supposed to be served until December, the airline said.
In an interview with the Indian news channel N ChandraSecaran stated that both the aircraft engines were “pure” stories.
“The correct engine was a new engine delivered in March 2025. The left engine was last served in 2023 and went out for the next maintenance check in December 2025,” he said.
At least 270 people, most of whom were killed last Thursday when AI171, London Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed less than a minute after departing from Ahmedabad Airport in Western India.
Now investigators sift garbage and decrypt the recorded flights and audio cabin – from the plane black boxes that were found – deconstrate the last flight moments and Determine the cause of the incident.
“There are many speculation and a lot of theories. But what I know so far, this is a specific aircraft, this particular tail, AI171, has a pure story,” Mr. ChandraSecaran said, warning people from jumps to conclusions.
“All the experts tell me that the black box and records will definitely tell the story. So, we just need to wait for it,” he added.
Kishor Puty, a former investigator of the Indian Aviation Investigation Bureau, said the BBC’s condition is not necessarily associated with its age-based age-1B engines used on Boeing 787-8.
“The engine age is not relevant to the engine health, especially for Genx-1B engines,” said Mr. In other words, just because the engine is new, it does not necessarily mean that it is healthy or vice versa.
Unlike old models, Genx-1B engines, which are produced by GE Aerospace, do not follow fixed overhaul or maintenance schedule. Instead, they are equipped with a system called complete digital engine control authority, which constantly monitors the health and performance of the engine. Service or engine replacement solution is based on this data and physical checks.
However, Mr -n Chinta noted that some engine components known as Life Limited Parts (LLP) still have a fixed service life from 15,000 to 20,000 cycles.
“Every start and engine switch is considered one cycle,” he explained.
While the investigation is ongoing, Air India has also announced a 15% reduction in its international operations on the wide body by mid -July, when it acts out of the disaster.
A statement issued on Wednesday, the airline states that the decision was due to “difficult circumstances” – including expanded security checks, raising caution through crew and ground staff and tensions in the Middle East.
Separately, the airline said the checks were completed 26 of the 33 Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 planes that were “cleared for service”.
India’s aviation regulator has ordered additional security checks at the Air India Boeing 787 fleet after the death disaster as a “preventive measure”.
The rest of the planes are expected to be considered in the coming days, Air India said, adding that the Boeing 777 fleet will also “conduct extended security checks”.
“The cuts are a painful measure to take, but the necessary after the devastating event we are still working and an unusual combination of external events,” the statement reads.
Meanwhile, some experts say Influence on Air India when it tries to convert From the problem state carrier to the private company.
Tata Sons, a conglomerate, which also owns big brands such as Tetley Tea and Jaguar Land Rover, brought the airline – previously the India’s national carrier – from the Indian government in 2022.
