Myanmar’s capital Nay Pyi Taw will be redirected after an earthquake

Myanmar’s capital in the city of Navi Tov will be converted after a devastating earthquake last month, the military leader said.

During a government meeting, the senior general Mi Aun Hlaing said the buildings that had fallen apart during the earthquake were so strongly affected because they were built on a soft soil.

According to him, office buildings will be restored and should be resistant to future earthquakes, and the tests are also conducted before any recovery is made.

The BBC saw data showing that about 70% of state buildings were damaged by an earthquake in the capital, and some offices were reportedly transferred to Yangon.

Myanmar was devastated by a huge earthquake that came to the country on March 28. The 7.7 earthquake was so strong that it was felt in Thailand and in the southwest of China.

According to state media, more than 3,500 people were killed and 5,012 injuries were injured in Myanmar as a result of an earthquake.

The city of Nay Pius Tau covers at least four times larger London area, but only with a share of people. His story is short: it has only existed since 2005, raised from the flat countries of the then military rulers of Myanmar, which was previously known as Burma.

The Nay Pyi Taw name means “King’s place”. The reasons for the movement of the capital about 370 km deep from the largest city of Jangon have never been quite understandable.

The city carries all the distinctive signs of the planned capital: the road leading from the parliament to the presidential palace, the width of 20 lanes, but has virtually no movement. Shiny malls and empty luxury hotels allocate boulevards. There is a safari park, a zoo and at least three stadiums.

Since 2021, Myanmar has suffered a civil war between the junta, which seized power in the military coup, and ethnic police and resistance forces across the country.
