The Russian Investigative Committee states that former Russian Transport Minister Roman Starovois was found dead, apparently with a firearm.
He was fired earlier on Monday by President Vladimir Putin.
There was no reason for the dismissal of Starovoit, and the Deputy Minister of Transport Andrei Nikitin was soon replaced by his replacement.
The Investigative Committee said he was working on establishing the circumstances of the incident.
In May 2024, Starovois was appointed Minister of Transport.
Before becoming the Minister of Transport Starovois, he held the position of Governor of Kursk for almost nine years, until May 2024.
In August 2024, the region was partially confiscated by Ukrainian troops in an unexpected offensive. Moscow only managed to expel Ukrainian troops, although in late June Kiev stated that he was still holding a small territory inside Russia.
The successor of Starovoit, Alexei Smirnov, was only briefly in the message. He was arrested in April and later accused of theft of funds that were allocated for the construction of fortifications on the border with Ukraine.
According to the Russian exit of the merchant, Starovois was going to enter as a defendant in the same case.
It is unclear when Starovoit died for sure.
The head of the State Duma Defense Committee Andrei Kartopolov told the Russian socket RTVI that his death had occurred “for a long time”.
Earlier, on Monday, before the death of Old Caucasus, Kremlin’s press -secretary Dmitry Peskov was pressed by journalists as to whether the dismissal means Putin, who lost confidence in Starovoit over the events in Kursk.
“The loss of trust is mentioned when there is a loss of trust. Such a formulation was not used (in the Kremlin’s decree),” Peska replied.
