Minimum wages introduced to WSL and WSL 2 of 2025-26

For the first time, the players of the first two divisions of women’s football in England will have a minimum wage, starting this season.

The change is part of the new regulations of WSL Football, the organization responsible for the execution of the professional leagues of England.

Although the exact figure has not been revealed, the salary has been described as a “full -time salary”.

It is expected that the final payment frame will be exposed by the end of this season when the updated rule books of the Women’s Super League (WSL) and WSL 2 will be published.

The salary structure has been developed in consultation with the Professional Association of footballers (PFA) and will vary depending on factors such as the age of the player, the experience and the division in which they compete.

“A really positive movement” – Murdoch

WSL Football Operational Director Holly Murdoch said: “We feel it is a really positive play. We have so many players that they had to juggle part -time while playing football.

“Being able to ensure that all our players can win a full -time football salary is very, very important. I would say that it is the beginning, as it is a frame in which we can develop.

“We have worked very closely with the PFA about how these thresholds should be. We will constantly review it.”

Beside the new salary guarantees, clubs must also meet the highest standards around the training settings and the well -being of the players.

The changes occur after WSL football signed a long -term collaboration with Nike, which will include providing goalkeepers’ boots and gloves to all WSL and WSL 2 players who no longer have personal sponsorship treatment.

Another step sees collaboration with Kyniska Advocacy, an organization led by the athlete focused on safeguarding. Players will now have access to a confidential service through which the worries of well -being can be raised independently.

Murdoch added: “We know that due to the fact that the game has grown so quickly, we have disparity. Some of this creates a competitive advantage, so there are elements that we must handle.

“One of the requirements will be to play a role of” well -being. “
