“I had a pretty traumatic experience on a show I was doing with Lorne (Michaels) When I was doing my new year show, ”Cyrus said, 32, during Wednesday, May 21, Interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “I had a medical crisis. I had an ovarian pod ripped.”
An ovarian coded tear is when a liquid sack on or inside is openly bursting and causing severe pain and bleeding inside the pelvis, per Mayo clinic. At the time, Cyrus “didn’t know exactly what was happening,” so he went on with the show. Cyrus was held alongside Godmother Dolly Parton and perform duets with parton, Is and Paris Hilton.
“It was quite traumatic because it was extremely moving and I did the show anyway,” Cyrus remembered. “But it was really difficult for me.”
The health scare is not the only challenge that Cyrus overcome. During his conversation with Lowe, 51, he shared the importance of maintain his sobriety.
“I’ve learned this about myself over the years. The sobriety is probably like my God,” said the singer. “I need it, I live for it. I mean he changed my whole life.”

“When you came to my psychedelic house painted black in hidden hills, where everything is like every white and riding home. And then I painted mine black and rainbow … I no longer live there,” he said. “But I was happy for you to come and see me in that space. And I was thinking about it a lot today because I was on my way here, because I was so close to who is sitting here at the moment. But life was just. He had more to teach me. He had more lessons.”
During their last conversation Cyrus admitted that she “Collapsed away” her sobriety journey at the time. However, Cyrus does not regret the mistake since he led her to where she is now.
“I know I need to fall again. And just, I had to. It would never have happened like this. I never had been sitting here. And there were times in that section where I’ve seen you before,” he said. “And there were times in that section where I’ve seen you last time and now they hurt, I’m not proud of them. Definitely not my best moments, not some of my best work, any of that.”
Cyrus added that the battle was led to Write “Flowers,” he won his first grammy for him.
“It all led me to writing ‘Flowers,’ which was then some kind of key into the lock of the whole healing,” he said. “He healed so much for me.”
