The Michigan Wolverines ended 2024 the same way they started: with a win over Alabama.
On New Year’s Eve, Michigan defeated the Crimson Tide in the ReliaQuest Bowl at Raymond James Stadium to end its season with a three-game winning streak, including against rival Ohio State.
The 19-13 win comes almost a year after Michigan defeated Alabama in overtime in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day to advance to the national championship game where Jim Harabaugh and JJ McCarthy would lead the Wolverines to victory before leaving for the NFL.

According to Detroit Free Press, the win marks the first time a college football program has defeated Alabama twice in the same calendar year.
But 2024 was a tough year for Alabama head coach Cullen DeBore, who coached Washington to the CFB final.
Alabama, disappointed to be left out of the expanded 12-team CFP field, entered Tuesday as the favorite. But Michigan’s defense is led by a former New York Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, shut down Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, sacking him five times and forcing three turnovers.
BOISE STATE SLEEPS ON ROLLE OF FAILURE AHEAD OF CFP GAME
Dominic Zvada threw four field goals and Davis Warren threw a touchdown to Fredrick Moore in the first half, but Michigan’s defense secured the win.
Alabama had a chance to win on the final drive, but on fourth-and-10 in the red zone, Milroe was stopped. He finished 16 of 32 for 192 passes, one touchdown and an interception.
