Mexicans mourn the death of two young military cadets who died on Saturday when a high -ship Kuautemok’s high -ship’s workouts crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge.
20-year-old America Sanchez and 23-year-old Adal Jiri Maldonad Marcos were among the 277 crew members aboard the navy’s navy sailing when three mast cut off when they hit the bridge.
According to Mexican media, Sanchez was one of the cadets standing on top of the masts during the accident.
Twenty -two other crew members were injured, three of them are critical, the Mexican fleet said.
The commander of the Mexican Fleet Admiral Pedri Rimund Morales said that soon all crew members are good enough to travel.
It is planned that the body of America Sanchez will be transferred to the Military Academy in her native state later on Monday.
Her mother, Rocio Hernandez, called the 20-year-old “exemplary daughter” cadet, which was a “devoted student” who sought to become a naval engineer.
Standing in front of an improvised altar, decorated with flowers and photos of America Sanchez, dressed for her “Quinceañera”, a party that celebrated her 15th birthday, Mrs. Hernandez paid tribute to her daughter.
“She was a warrior, a soldier who did not refuse, who always fought for his goals,” she said, adding that she had only one year before her daughter before graduation.
“They (the Military Fleet) will hold a private ceremony in her honor at the Vercruz Military Academy, and then I will bring her home,” said Ms Hernandez, thanking all the relatives, friends and teachers of her daughter, “remember her (America).”
In San -Motheta Del -Mar, Coastal City in Oxaka, friends and relatives of Adal Jiri Maldonad Markas also paid respect after the young cadet was confirmed by the second death victim of the catastrophe.
His friends told local media that the 23-year-old guy always dreamed of following his father’s footsteps and becoming a sailor.
Being aboard Cuauhtémoc, also known as the “knight of the seas”, was his greatest desire, they reminded.
“The sea saw him born, and the sea witnessed his passage,” – one friend in the media, adding that “we all knew him, remember him as a model of intellectual youth.”
An investigation into how the accident happened is still going on.
Police representatives in New York said it turned out that Kuautemok had lost power when he left the New York harbor and was dragged towards the Brooklyn Bridge.
Its three mast, which measures more than 48 million, hit the base of the bridge, which – given the New York transport department – only 41.1 million.
All three mast have fallen apart, and videos made by random people show that some crew members hang out of yards and sails.
The secretary of the Military Fleet of Mexico Rimund Pedro Morales Angeles said in a statement that the results of any investigation would be accompanied by “complete transparency and responsibility”.
