Mexico reportedly denied ground access to a U.S. military plane that was scheduled to be transported illegal immigrants to the country this week, underscoring tensions between the United States and its southern neighbor as the Trump administration continues its crackdown on illegal migrants.
NBC News, citing two U.S. defense officials and a third person familiar with the situation, said two Air Force C-17s bound for Guatemala, each carrying about 80 people, took the deportees Thursday night from the U.S.
A third flight bound for Mexico never took off after Mexico refused permission to land, the report said. Fox News Digital reached out to the White House and the Mexican Embassy Washington, DC.

Transportation of deportees to a foreign country requires cooperation with the government of that country.
It is not yet clear why Mexico blocked the flight, but tensions over the Trump administration’s tough illegal immigration policies have strained relations between the countries.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said she opposes Trump’s executive orders to crack down on illegal immigration, including restoring the “Remain in Mexico” policy that requires migrants to wait in Mexico while their asylum claims are played out in the US
Before taking office this week, Trump promised mass deportations, initially targeting criminal illegal migrants and stricter immigration standards and screening procedures.
Trump also ordered 1,500 troops to the southern border to increase the military presence there.
