Mexican Lord Drugs, Ismael “El May”, Zombada, has been charged with two charges in smuggling for drugs and conspiracy in New York, including the end of one of the longest and most famous criminal crime careers.
Zombada was not just any drug.
He was the founder of Cartel Sinaloa, for many years the largest and most powerful criminal organization in Mexico – with a strange global achievement.
Last year, he did not find himself guilty of smuggling drugs, rampant and money laundering. But now he has changed his request to a federal judge in Brooklyn.
By doing this, he officially accepted his role in the creation of a huge criminal network, which sent a huge amount of cocaine and other drugs to the United States because he founded a cartel in the late 1980s.
The step comes a few weeks after the US prosecutor’s office confirmed that he would not seek the death penalty against 77-year-old Mexican Kingpina.
Last year, Zombada was arrested in Texas after the unusual double cross, which the sons of his former ally, co-founded of Cartel Sinaloa, Hoakin “El-Chapa” Guzman.
El Chapo was sentenced to life imprisonment in the same court in 2019.
After his arrest, the cartel crashed into two main factions: one led by El -May and his rival led by the sons of Guzman, known as “Los -Capitas”. The conflict between both sides continues to rage, especially in the state of the Sinalo.
At the end of July 2024, Zambada allegedly attracted to meet with one of his son El -Chap, Hoaquin Guzman Lopez.
The initial reports suggested that Guzman Lopez then pushed his opponent into landing a light aircraft, but Zombada later claimed that he was ambushed and overcame the Los -Capitas, and forcibly taken to Texas.
US law enforcement officers were waiting for the plane when it landed near El Pas, and both men were immediately taken into custody.
Introducing the guilt, Zambada is expected to receive a softer time. At the end of the 70s and, it is reportedly, he may have thought that it was useless to continue demanding his innocence, especially given the conviction of Guzman and the life sentence in 2019.
Last year, it was confirmed that both sons of Guzman – Hookin and his younger brother Avidi – are negotiating agreements with the US government.
In May, the US officials held 17 Guzman family. Last month, Ovidium pleaded guilty to Chicago on numerous accusations of drug addiction and participation in a permanent criminal enterprise.
In its midst, Zambada was probably the most powerful drug lord in the world.
More shadow than other Kingpins – especially El Chapo, whose rescue from prison in 2001 and 2015 made headlines around the world – Zambada was no less relentless and calculated.
For five decades, he successfully evaded arrest or capture. During this time, he oversee the transportation of a large number of heroin, cocaine and methhetamine to the US through earth, sea and air.
Now, in the US courtroom, one of the most durable names in the world’s drug trafficking has taken its role in the top of one of the largest and most complex criminal networks in the world.
He must be convicted in January 2026.
