Meghan Markle has faced many challenges since marrying into the British royal family – but she hasn’t let them dim her light.
The first Suits star fell into a whirlwind romance with Prince Harry in 2016, and by November 2017, the pair were engaged. During a candid interview with the BBC shortly after their engagement Meghan and her then fiance hit the headlines openly about the extreme negative they had been subject while living in the public eye.
“Of course, it’s depressing,” Meghan said at the time. “You know, it’s a shame that’s the climate in this world… but I think at the end of the day, I’m very proud of who I am and where I come from, and we’ve never put any focus on that. We just focused on who we are as a couple. And so, when you take away all those extra layers and all that noise, I think it makes it really easy to do that just enjoy being together and tune the rest out from there.”
The duo got married in May 2018. That the first black member of the royal family breaking new ground in its own right, but Meghan shocked the world once again when she gave birth to her son Archie, Queen Elizabeth IIfirst biracial great-grandchild, in May 2019.
Eventually, the stress of royal life became too much. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex resign from their senior roles within the palace in January 2020, and three months later, she settled in Los Angeles with their son. In July 2020, the family of three moved to the quieter neighborhood of Montecito in Santa Barbara, California. Meghan and Harry continued to put down roots in California as they expanded their family with their daughter Lilibet who they welcomed in June 2021.
