Turki Al-Shiekh revealed the fights he wants to see happen in the sport. One of the best in terms of overall appeal is Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford at super middleweight.
It will be a tough fight for Turki in 2025 because three-time 168-pound unified champion Canelo (62-2-2, 39 KOs) has shown no interest in giving Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) a chance to fight him. It’s understandable, though.
Of these fights, a rematch between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney would appeal to many fans around the world. It may be the biggest boxing fight ever. British promoter Eddie Hearn insists Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury is the biggest in the sport. it is not There is no attraction to the struggle of those ancients. That fight is no longer interesting, and was never a great one to begin with due to the lack of solid wins by both British fighters during their careers.
Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) wants to show fans that his victory over former two-division world champion Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) last year wasn’t because he used Ostarine. That’s the picture Devin and his father, Bill Haney, painted to explain their defeat last year.
The Brits want to see Joshua vs. Fury and Eubank Jr. against Benn, but the Americans have no interest in such fights. Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are seen as old heavyweights who never beat great opposition.
They just are manufactured and pampered fighters—never the real thing. American fans don’t care, and they definitely have no interest in a nationwide fight between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn. These two are not world class and never were.
Canelo has nothing to gain by fighting a smaller, older fighter who fights two weight classes below him. Crawford would need to gain 14 pounds to make his first appearance at 168. This fight is just a vehicle for Crawford to get retirement money. Terence looked old and woefully unwell in his debut at 154 against Israel Madrimov last August.
The performance showed that Terence is not cut out of the junior middleweight division and that he would eventually lose if he were to risk fighting power punchers Bakhram Murtazaliev, Serhii Bohachuk and Vergil Ortiz Jr. Those guys would throw some chips at Crawford, probably. all beating him, and ruining his futile dream of Canelo’s retirement.
The Mexican star might be more open to giving Nebraska native Bud Crawford a title shot he was brave enough to move up to super middleweight and defeat two or three top fighters. Crawford doesn’t plan to for obvious reasons. He just wants to be given the Canelo fight, and you can’t respect that.
Turki can make the Canelo-Crawford fight happen this year if he offers Alvarez a lot of money that he hasn’t seen in his long career. The Mexican star’s net worth is estimated at a quarter of a billion. So for Al-Shiekh to get this fight, he may have to offer Canelo more than $100 million.
You have to assume that Crawford would want wet the beak in at least half of that if nothing else Financially, it doesn’t make sense. Crawford is not a draw and the fight will not come close to breaking even.
“I want to see Eubank-Benn. Also, of course, Tyson and Joshua. (Moses) Itauma deserves to be the youngest heavyweight champion,” Turki Al-Shiekh told Froch on Fighting. YouTube fight channel you want to watch in 2025.
“He is still one year away from reaching that number (correction: Moses Itauma has until May 19, 2025 to break Mike Tyson’s record of becoming the youngest heavyweight champion),” continued Turki.
“In the American market, I want to see Canelo-Crawford. I want to see Garcia-Haney, the rematch.”
