Captain of Edmonton Oilers and three times MVP Connor McDavid said before he plans to take advantage of his time to decide if he wants to sign again with EdmontonSince your current contract is expected to expire next season. In 2017, he signed an eight-year-old $ 100 million agreement at the end of the 2025-26 season.
“I said at the end of June, I had all the intentions to take my time with him, and I still feel the same way.” McDavid told journalists. “I’m going to take my time and I’ll spend everything.”
McDavid was one of the several stars of the NHL attending the Canadian Men’s Olympic Orientation Camp before the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. He joked that he was hoping to start answering the Olympic Games questions, but he assured Oilers fans that he is only focused on winning.
“I have all the intention to win in Edmonton,” said McDavid. “It’s my only focus, maybe next to winning a gold medal with Canada. But this is my intention: win.”
Since being drafted by the Oilers in 2015, Connor McDavid has helped the franchise to become a perennial playoff team, reaching the post -season seven times in his first ten years as a professional. Unfortunately for him, the Oilers have fallen a Stanley Cup championship after suffering losses in Florida Panthers for the last two years.
Ideally, McDavid and Oilers would like to end an agreement before the regular season begins on October 7. But he said that the two parties have not even begun to negotiate a new contract.
“All options are at the table, really,” McDavid explained. “We are happening.
Old McDavid agent Jeff Jackson, who is now the CEO of Hockey Operations for Edmonton Oilers, does not seem to be concerned with the negotiation process. He believes that both parties will be able to make an agreement quickly.
“He has another year. He loves to play Edmonton. And surely we have made an agreement (a) in early September with Leon (Draisaitl), and we are very happy because of it. So I feel that he is the same with Connor.” Jackson said during an interview on the sheet with the podcast Jeff Marek. “It will not be a long negotiation … It will be different from any other type of negotiation because it is not really, and I think when Connor is ready, we will have the discussion and we will make an agreement.”
Regardless of the expectations of Jeff Jackson, McDavid reiterated that he is in no hurry to do anything.
“I will spend my time spending it with my family, my agent and all involved,” he said. “We are going slowly.”
Edmonton Oilers Open Open Training Camp on September 17. His first game of the regular season will be against the Flames de Calgary on October 8 at 22:00 EDT.
