New York Mayor Eric Adams and President-elect Trump met in Palm Beach, Florida, on Friday, three days before Trump’s return to the White House.
“President Trump and I had a fruitful conversation about the needs of New York and what is best for our city, and how the federal government can play a more beneficial role in improving the lives of New Yorkers,” Adams said in a statement. distributed by his press secretary Fabien. Levy.
“When we briefly touched on a number of issues, we especially focused on ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas and how it will have a positive impact on public safety in our country; how we can bring manufacturing jobs back to New York, especially the Bronx; and how we can continue to make federal investments in New York, especially when it comes to infrastructure.”
The Democratic mayor, who is awaiting trial on federal corruption charges in April, said the pair did not discuss his legal issues at the meeting.
As president, Trump would have the power to pardon Adams.
Adams faces charges that he accepted luxury travel benefits and illegal campaign donations from foreign nationals in exchange for corrupt practices.
Trump, who was convicted in a New York court last year of falsifying business records, has in the past defended Adams, arguing that the charges against the mayor may have been brought because he had criticized President Biden abroad.
Trump said he would consider a pardon for Adams.
“To be clear, we did not discuss my lawsuit, and those who propose mayor of the nation’s largest city should not meet with the next president to discuss our cities’ priorities because of inaccurate assumptions or because we are clearly different. parties care more about politics than people,” Adams said.
“As I have always done, I will take every opportunity I can to advocate for the people of New York and our city. And after our discussion, I firmly believe that our city and the federal government can partner to make New York City safer, stronger and more accessible. I thank President Trump for his time and consideration and look forward to working with him for the benefit of all New Yorkers.”

Adams was criticized for the meeting by other New York politicians.
“Trump’s agenda will not move our city or our country forward. This pilgrimage is obviously about something else,” state Sen. Zellnor Myri wrote on X this week.
New York Comptroller Brad Lander wrote on X that “Eric Adams should immediately state that he will not seek or accept a pardon from Donald Trump. New Yorkers deserve to know that their mayor is putting their interests ahead of his own — and whether it’s our tax dollars or Turkish Airlines funding his trip to Florida.”
“Who is this meeting for, the people of New York or Eric Adams? Our city has too many problems right now to worry about whether it is fighting for New Yorkers or a hypothetical pardon for itself,” wrote Scott Stringer, the former city controller. X.
