Matthew Livelsberger, Cybertruck driver in front of the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas

The driver of the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded near Trump International Hotel Las Vegas on New Year’s Day has been identified as Matthew Alan Livelsberger, 37, a U.S. Army soldier from Colorado, U.S. officials said.

Police said Livelsberger was shot in the head.

Authorities used his tattoos along with his credit cards, military ID and passport to identify him at the scene.

“There are two tattoos, one on his stomach and one on his arm, and we can see pieces of that compared to what we now know he had on his body,” Sheriff Kevin said Thursday. McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

“It gave us a lot of confidence that it was, in fact, the same person, and the obvious, which was the credit cards, the military ID, the passport,” he added.

Military career:

According to a US official, the 37-year-old had recently returned from a foreign assignment in Germany and was on authorized leave at the time of the incident.

He served in the army since 2006, working his way up the career ladder.

“Master Sergeant Matthew Alan Livelsberger enlisted in 18X and served in the active duty Army from January 2006 to March 2011. Livelsberger then joined the National Guard from March 2011 to July 2012 and then the Army Reserve from July 2012 to December 2012. He entered the emergency service in December 2012 and was a US Army Special Operations Soldier“, an Army spokesman confirmed to Fox News.

He was awarded a total of five Bronze Stars, including one with a device of valor for courage under fire, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the Army Medal of Valor.

He was deployed twice to Afghanistan and also served in Ukraine, Tajikistan, Georgia and the Congo, according to the Associated Press.

Political affiliation:

There has been speculation on the internet about his political leanings, but no confirmed information on how he voted.

Livelsberger’s uncle, Dean, told The Independent that he “loved Trump.”

“He loved Trump, and he’s always been a very, very patriotic soldier, a patriotic American” Dean said. “That’s one of the reasons he served in the Special Forces for so many years.”

Family:

Livelsberger appears to have been married at one point to Sarah Livelsberger, a 38-year-old woman living in Delray Beach, Florida. The Denver Post reported that he divorced in 2018 and remarried in 2022.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Sarah Livelsberger for comment.

Sarah’s Facebook page has been silent since 2016, but Leavelsberger has been repeatedly mentioned as her husband.

In Facebook posts dating back to 2016, Sarah said she was a registered Democrat and shared images disparaging President-elect Trump.

The Cybertruck was rented in Colorado, authorities said during a news conference Wednesday.

The futuristic Tesla car was equipped with large pyrotechnic mortars in the back and fuel canisters. He arrived in Las Vegas around 7:30 a.m. local time on Wednesday and drove up and down the strip before checking into the Trump Hotel.

The car was parked for about 20 seconds before it exploded. the police said.

Authorities are continuing to investigate whether the incident was an act of terrorism, which came hours after another US veteran killed at least 15 people when he drove a truck bearing an Islamic State flag down Bourbon Street in New Orleans.

The authorities so far work on determining the motive.

“We didn’t mistake that it was in front of the Trump building, that it was a Tesla car, but at this point we don’t have any information that definitely tells us or suggests that it was because of that particular ideology,” said Spencer Evans, the special in charge. Las Vegas FBI agent.
