New claims related to the arrest of the Olympic Gymnast Mary Lou Retton have been revealed.
In Tuesday’s report, May 27, by the PressIt is alleged that the Firmont West Virginia Police Department claimed that Retton, 57, had “smiled alcohol and slipped her words,” following the failure of a field sobriety test carried out by officers on the spot.
The report also noted that officers had observed a “container of wine in the passenger’s seat” before Retton’s May 17 arrest On one account of “driving under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or drugs,” per legal document details issued by People On Monday, May 26.
Weekly US reached out to the Retton team for comments.
Fairmont Police representatives also reported that they had stopped Retton after learning about “a person in Porsche driving inconsistently.”
The Associated Press said the retired athlete, who made history at the 1984 Summer Olympics when the first American woman came to win gold in the individual competition around, “refusing a roadside breath test and a roadside blood test.”
