The Marvel Cinematic Universe is huge, especially now that Disney+ includes sections on Fox’s X-Men and Fantastic Four, even acknowledging shows like Legion a The Talenteda Morbius is part of the Spider-Verse collection. However, nestled on the service, where no one can find it without specifically looking for it, is the Marvel series that was thrown to Freeform, formerly ABC Family, Cloak, and Tears. Airing for two seasons, the series brought to life the adventures of teenagers (no, not those runners), Tandy and Tyrone, who are usually Spider-Man supporting characters, but stuck in their show themselves with no connection to anything in the MCU.

In the series, Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph play Tandy and Tyrone, respectively, as the action is shifted from New York to New Orleans, and an industrial accident is replaced by a drug-fueled origin story the superhero pair from the comics. . Cloak and Tears is one of those shows that could get away with drastically changing the origins of its heroes because even in the comics, the pair are always stuck in a supporting role and rarely get their own title.
It’s a testament to those stars Cloak and Tears as good as it is. The show leans hard into teenage angst, and takes advantage of the lack of any innovative stories involving the heroes to build them fresh as new characters without any fan expectations. This time, Tandy is world-weary, beaten and defeated, but has the power to see everyone’s hopes and dreams when she touches them. Tyrone retains his connection to the Darkforce Dimension but is also able to see people’s fears.
Freeform never gave Cloak and Tears a lot of budget to play with, but thankfully the pair’s powers are some of the cheapest that can be shown on screen as all you need is bright light and deep darkness. While the Disney+ MCU shows look and feel like movies, the world of Tandy and Tyrone looks like The Secret Life of the American Teenagerif demons sometimes made an appearance. D’Spayre, D level Doctor Strange villain, plays a major role in the series alongside, as he is in New Orleans, Baron Sammedi, the famous Vodou Ioa.

Cloak and Tears spends its first season dealing with how the pair got their powers and the trauma that binds them together, while season two delves into them using their abilities to help change the world for the better . It never reaches the heights of Netflix Daredevilbut each season is over 85 percent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and has set a Freeform ratings record with over 7 million viewers. Critics praised the show for directly embracing dark, teen-centric stories in a way that never insulted the intended audience or seemed to be talking down to them.
Tyrone and Tandy only appeared in one other Amazed show, the Hulu Original Runawaysafter end Cloak and Tears. It’s fitting, since both shows were kicked off the Marvel landing page on Disney+, and the only evidence of them that exists in the MCU is their self-contained crossover. Today, Cloak and Dagger is finally finding a big fanbase thanks to its inclusion in the free-to-play game Amazing Contestantsbut despite the new coverage, we will never see them in the MCU.
Cloak and Tears is streaming on Disney +.
