Marta Caroa Caroa Caroa Nataid in Tanzania, Head of the Tagda Tagda

Leading lawyer for Kenya and former Justice Minister in the country Martha Carois says she was detained in Tanzania after a flight to the court of the opposition leader Tund Lis.

Carois stated in a social media report that she had been detained at the main international airport and was waiting for deportation with two colleagues who had arrived with her. The Tanzania authorities have not yet commented.

The Tanzanian Policy fox should appear in court on Monday after being accused of treason last month.

Carois is a respected human rights defender and a vocal critic of what she calls a “democratic retreat” in East Africa.

She also represented the Ugandan opposition politician Kiz Bessige, who was abducted in Kenya last year and returned to his country to threaten the allegations of treason.

Like the fox, he denies the allegations, claiming they are politically motivated.

Carois held the post of Minister of Justice of Kenya from 2005 to 2009, and was a partner of the former Prime Minister advised Adjima in his unsuccessful presidential application in the 2022 elections.

Earlier this year, she launched her own opposition party, the Liberation Party.

Carois’s press -secretary told AFP that she was confiscated for three hours at Tanzania Airport at Tanzania Airport and her passport was confiscated.

Carois said she was now waiting for deportation together with Gloria’s Keni Kimani’s counter and Human Rights Company, Lin Ngugi.

The Tanzania’s defenders coalition condemned what she called the “arbitrary arrest” of three, and stated that she had instructed her lawyers to try to secure their release.

It adds that it was shocked by detentions, as Carois allowed Tanzania to monitor the case when on April 15 appeared in court.

Human rights groups are increasingly concerned about the opposition’s repression in Tanzania ahead of the presidential and parliamentary elections that took place in October.

The Lis, the leader of the Main Party of the Opposition Chadem, cannot be bail because he is accused of treason, a crime for which the maximum period of death.

He survived the attempt at 2017 after being shot 16 times.

The opposition leader was arrested in April after he held a rally under the slogan “No reforms or elections”.

It requires extensive changes, saying that the current Tanzania laws do not allow free and fair elections. The government denies the charge.

Since his arrest, his Chadem Party was forbidden to dispute a October poll after he refused to comply with the election commission’s request to sign a conduct.

The document requires parties and their supporters “behave well” as well as “maintain peace and harmony” during the elections.

Chadema views the Code of Conduct as a load to hold the opposition, and state repressions continue.

The CCM party, which has been run by Tanzania since 1977, is expected to retain power after the last events.

President Suluha Hassan is expected to become his presidential candidate.

She was widely appreciated to give the Tanzanis more political freedom when he took office in 2021 after the death of John Merfuli.

Her critics say Tanzania again sees the repression that characterized the management of Murfuli. The government denies the charge.
