Mark Ronson He has not touched a hard drug in years, but in his new biography, the music producer unfortunately admits that he has too many close calls when he was younger.
“One night, when I was out late and already flying on e (ecstasy), I took a charcoal hit,” Ronson, 50, remembers Night people: How to be a DJ in ’90s New York City (Out Tuesday, September 16). “Within minutes, my chest tightened and my left arm became numb. Could I be getting a stroke?”
Ronson remembers “trembling, waiting for the panic to pass, but would not leave up.” Eventually, his friends found him “curling up in a corner in Catatonic” and took him home.
“They tried to joke with me as we drove up Park Avenue, hoping to pull me out of my hole,” he writes. “I gave a quiet, convincing smile. When we got home, (my friend) Tom hid me in bed, reminding me of English nurses who cared for me when I was in hospital for meningitis as a boy.”
Ronson explains that “these chapters did not always happen (he) high, but it became a register of the dice.”
As well as ecstasy and cocaine, Ronson admits to doubling with heroin on several occasions, starting at the age of 18.
“I was overdoing things, mixing drugs like cocktails,” he reflects in the book. “One night, I accidentally took heroin – a kind of (pass a bag of powder for me and I never asked too many questions).”

Publishing Central GrandRonson writes that he was “lucky” that he had never “completely swallowed” by addiction like some of his close friends.
“The three children who had joined me in the alphabet during my short heroin period, years ago, were still struggling now,” he shares. “Once lively, they now moved at half speed, their faces gray and pallid. And I hated how junk drained the color of the people I loved.”

It is only in the 1990s Ronson’s biography, but its drug use continued well into the 2010s.
In a London Times Profile announced on Friday, September 12, Ronson admitted to “making drugs in the toilet” immediately after the 2016 Grammy Awards, where he won the Record of the Year for his cut Bruno Mars Cooperation, “Uptown Funk.” Ronson explained in a subsequent interview with The sun“It was actually in my late 30s, the early 40s and around (my album in 2007) Version and into (2010’s) Record collection That I really get the hardest. “
However, these days look very different to Ronson: he married actress Grace Gummer in 2021, and they have since welcome two girls.
“I’m not (totally) sober but I also don’t fly myself on stimulus and chaos any chance I can get,” he writes at the end Evening people. “Looking back on the early days, I can’t believe what I put my body through, how normal I thought it was and the ways it was disciplining me of real things of life.”
