Maresca wants to add a new defender after Colwill ACL injury

Enzo Maresca has confirmed that strengthening the defense is his priority after Levi Colwill’s recent ACL surgery.

The young defender, who played an important role for Chelsea last season and during the Club World Cup, faces a long recovery and is expected to lose most of the next campaign after suffering the injury during training earlier this week.

Despite the Chelsea, which has already invested more than 200 million pounds in the new signings this summer, Maresca indicated that the club will return to the transfer market to strengthen its defensive options in the absence of Colwill.

“It’s a priority for me,” Maresca told Channel 5.

“Levi is a fantastic player. What we got last season is because of him. He played many games with me, I love him. We will miss.

“We are also trying to find different solutions.”

Maresca made these comments after Chelsea’s first friendship returned to Stamford Bridge, where the blues won a comfortable 2-0 victory against Bayer Leverkusen despite having resumed only four days earlier.

Reflecting on the performance, Maresca said, “(I’m very pleased with the performance, especially after just four days of training. It’s good to start over.”

One of the prominent players was the young Brazilian Estevao, who marked with Joao Pedro and impressed his debut, presenting a claim for a regular place when the season of the Premier League begins.

“She is very young, very, very young. She has to adapt -she needs to play. I said she will help because she is a fantastic player,” Maresca added about the promising talent.

With Chelsea significantly strengthening his attacking ranks this summer, Maresca acknowledged that not all players will be satisfied with the play time, given the competition by places.

“Not all will always be happy, because if they do not play, they are not happy.

“They must understand that they are all good, 22, 23, 24 players, and they must understand that there will be many rotations.”
