Maresca admits that Delap may be lost two months after collecting rope injuries to Fulham Win

Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, confirmed that Liam Delap’s hamstring injury can rule out up to two months, adding to the growing scarcity of club strikers.

The 21-year-old striker was forced to only 15 minutes at the Blues victory 2-0 on Fulham Saturday, taking his hamstrings before being replaced by Tyrique George.

The setback comes the same day that Nicolas Jackson was allowed to travel to Germany to end a loans to Bayern Munich, while the transfer of Christopher Nkunku to AC Milan was completed on Friday.

As a result, Chelsea could now be left with Joao Pedro available as the only senior forward for the foreseeable future.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Maresca admitted that perspectives did not seem positive:
“The cord was at full speed,” the Italian explained.

“Hopefully it is not long, but these types of cases, this type of injury, can always be six, eight weeks.”

Chelsea’s chief later expanded in the situation of his press conference after the party, acknowledged that the club may have to consider reinforcements by attacking before the transfer period will close at 7pm on Monday.

“Liam’s injury does not look good in terms of speed, it was at full speed, hamstring, so it requires, as always, weeks,” he said.

“And then in terms of another striker, to be honest, we end up the game from the dressing room and we came here for the press conference. So now, when we finish, we sit and see if we make a decision. That’s everything.”
