Founder of Mango Fashion Group Andic sobbed die on Saturday, December 14, after an “unexpected” accident. He was 71 years old.
Toni RuizCEO of Mango, announced the death of Andic in a statement share through the brand’s website.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected death of Isak Andic, our non-executive Chairman and founder of Mango, in an accident that occurred this Saturday,” Ruiz wrote. “Isak has been an example to all of us. He dedicated his life to Mango, leaving an indelible mark thanks to his strategic vision, his inspirational leadership and his unwavering commitment to values that he himself instilled in our company.”
The statement added, “His legacy reflects the achievements of a business project marked by success, and also by his human quality, his closeness and the care and affection he always had and conveyed always for the whole organization. His departure leaves a huge void but all of us are, in some way, his legacy and testimony to his achievements.”
Ruiz further noted that the remaining members of the Mango team will “ensure that (the brand) remains the project that Isak was aiming for and that he would be proud of.”
“In this extremely difficult time we share the family’s pain as if it were our pain,” the note concluded.
Andic had fell to his death while hiking in Barcelona, back CNN. Local police told the outlet that they had received an alert that a 71-year-old man had fallen down a ravine, more than 320 feet in the air, near the Collbató caves in Salnitre. Law enforcement units were sent to the area to find the body, according to CNN. Police sources later told the shop that the body belonged to Andic.
Spanish officials have also paid tribute to Andic’s death.
“All my love, and recognition of your great work and your business vision, which has turned this Spanish brand into a world direction in fashion,” prime minister Pedro Sánchez he wrote.
Mango is one of the largest fashion retailers in Europe, with stores located in over 120 markets.
