Gianluigi Donnarumma has revealed that Manchester City was the only “option” that he considered this summer, saying he is already fully feeling at home at Etihad Stadium.
The Italian goalkeeper sealed a transfer of 26 million pounds after being explained by Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique, who was no longer part of the club’s plans, despite raising three trophies with PSG last season, including the Champions League.
“It was very clear, my wish was to come here,” said Donnarumma. “This was my only option, the only thing I wanted.
“My only option was to come here … so I’m happy to be here in the city and be part of this fantastic team.
“Before the summer, I knew that the city was very interested in me, the relationship was strengthened after the Club World Cup.
“I knew the coach was pushing for my arrival here, everyone wanted me here, he gave me a pride to see a demonstration of affection. I did not hesitate to come here with great joy and enthusiasm.”
The 26-year-old, had an immediate impact on his Premier League debut, maintaining a clean sheet on the city’s 3-0 derby victory over Manchester United.
Erling Haaland was hugged warmly and others after producing a brilliant stop to deny Bryan Mbeumo.
Reflecting on his bond with his new teammates, Donnarumma added: “Apart from a fantastic player, one of the best in the world, if not the best in the world, (Haaland) is also a fantastic person and this is the one who does it even best.
“I have an incredible relationship with him, he immediately welcomed me. It seems to me that I have been here for many years, the way I was welcomed.
“The behavior of a team must be this, it must be like a family and when a teammate saves a goal, you must celebrate it as if it were a goal scored by a team.
“This is important to me, we must be united. It was a huge thing, the result against United went above.”
