Major subreddits ban links to X after Musk’s Seig Heil-Like Salute

The realization of two Nazi salutes may have earned Elon Musk some fans in the dark corners of the internet, but the probability is low that his supporters on BitChute and Rumble could compensate for the traffic that X is about to lose. Following Musk’s “I give you my heart” gesture that sounded a lot like a Sieg Heil salute, a number of major subreddits on Reddit banned links to X.

The ban covers basically every category of subreddit and will cut X links off from a significant source of traffic, as some of the communities boast millions of subscribers. The r/TwoXChromosomes subreddit, which has more than 14 million members and is one of the largest to join the protest, forbidden links to X (such as Facebook, Instagram and Threads) and encouraged users to report any link or screenshot from Musk’s platform so it can be removed.

The movement spread to different sections of Reddit. Gaming subreddits included r/Nintendo, r/magicTCG, r/Destiny2and r/KingdomHearts everyone is moving to ban X links. Other major subreddits including those for the Smash Bros., Halo, Counter-Strike, and Dungeons and Dragons communities are actively polling their members to decide if X gets the boot, for TheGamer.

Sports communities, too, are taking steps to prevent X-links from being shared. The subreddit for Formula 1 racing fans, r/formula 1 and its more than four million users are made with Musk’s platform, like Liverpool fans r/LiverpoolFC. Subreddits included r/NFL and r/hockey they’re considering the following, which is a pretty big deal, given that a lot of sports content is driven by reports that originate on Twitter.

The moderator of r/Military offered perhaps the most succinct and decisive of the X posts. While other communities debated whether to remove X links, u/DreamsAndSchemes made the call without any consultation and offered the following explanation for the prohibition: “Fuck this guy.”

While subreddit moderators and community members seem to have decided that if you look like a duck, talk like a duck, and passionately duck twice in front of a large audience, then you can be sure sure that’s what you’re thinking. is it.

But others have been less willing to condemn Musk. The Anti-Defamation League called Musk’s Seig Hiel move “an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute,” to which Musk thanked the group in response. Ben Shapiro came to Musk’s defense from share a photo of the two during a visit to Auschwitz, conveniently leaving out the reason Musk made the visit was because he was promotes anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and which allows the Nazis to return to X after being banned.

In any case, the traffic hit X will take from losing the major subreddits as an aggregator could be significant, but it is not clear that it will matter so much to Musk. He seems content to drive the platform’s functionality into the ground, as long as it allows him to accumulate power – and given that he apparently has. office space in the west winghe seems to be about as close to the levers of power as he can get.
